How We Test Whether A Game Is Really Offline

March 26, 2026 · Marek Vondráček

Plenty of games slap "offline" on the store page and then quietly need a connection for half their features. So we built a simple routine to catch them.

First, we install and open the game once with a connection, because some need an initial download. Then airplane mode goes on and stays on for the rest of testing. We play the opening hour, trigger saves, close the app, and reopen it — all offline.

We watch for the red flags: reconnection pop-ups, grayed-out menus, features that silently fail, or progress that vanishes. Anything that breaks gets noted clearly in the review.

It's not glamorous, but it's the whole point of this site. If we say a game works without a signal, it's because we checked.
